For those who switched from flash drives to SSDs, updates faster?

With FreeNAS 9.3 now supporting SSD boot volumes instead of just flash drives, have those of you who upgraded noticed any difference in performance for system updates? Updates take forever on my machine, but I wonder if it has more to do w/ the system running off a USB flash drive than a true SSD.

I just applied the lastest update. It took 36 seconds from the "apply updates" mouse click, to the "freenas is rebooting" browser window.
I switched to a SATA DOM while still using 9.2.1.7 in anticipation of using 9.3 so I have no update experience on a USB boot drive.
It seems to me that your ISP connection speeds would also have an effect on this process, my connection is 40 down-37 up (Mb/s)

I have systems running USB as well as SATA DOMs and SSDs. I can tell you that the update process is *massively* faster on SATA DOMs and SSDs compared to USB. Only 1 system I have uses USB that has seen lots of updates, and it takes so much longer compared to the other systems that I'm always thinking that the USB stick has failed or the system has locked up.

Bootup times aren't appreciably different, so don't buy it thinking that it will boot up faster (or the system as a whole will perform faster).

Just a point of correction here. The OP seems to imply that being able to boot from SSD is somehow a 9.3 feature.

It's not. You could have booted from SSD anytime in the past.
