Hello Guys,
This is by first time using freenas - 9.1.1
There is a plethora of information on here and in the documentation.
Looking for some advise as I am confused now- sorry if these questions have been already answered in posts i am still trying to get my head round the documentation and the forums.
Looking to replace a nas server and upgrade it to increase through put to connected users 10 + on large files
I have the following ;-
foxconn g31mx mother board - which is a pc board fitted with
intel Q6600 2 quad processor 2.40 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB
4 gig ddr2 ram
AMMC 3Ware 9500-4lp raid controller fitted with 128mb ram
4 - western digital caviar red 1Tb - RAID 10
At the moment using the gig NIC but have a Dell QLogic QLE2460 4GB PCI-e Fibre Card to play with
system boots from compact flash card fitted to a sata cf adaptor
thinking of getting rid of foxconn board and replacing with a proper server board with dual nics or quad.
there is a still a possibility of the fibre card getting used - it is used as a 1 gig at the moment due to lack of copper ports on switch 4 gig fibre possible in future . - if a quad 1 gig is the way to go then so be it .
Looking at the documentation and the forums .
There is a topic / document on Raid 10 how does or will this compare to the raid card setup
Is a server board the way to Go ?
Is dual or quad nics the way to go ?
Read somewhere that dual or quad is better for muiltiple users to access data ?
had a look at this board
