First build: looking for some feedback

Hello everyone,

For the past few days I've been reading the forums quite a bit and feel ready to put together my first FreeNas build. The main purpose for this would be running Plex / Sonarr / Radarr / Headphones.
Any feedback is welcome and would be great. I plan on starting out with 7 WD Red 4TB disks in Raid-z2, planning on expanding that later on with another 7 WD Red 3TB disk. FreeNaasOS will be running on two mirrored Samsung 840 250GB SSD's.

Case: NZXT H440 New Edition
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1280 v3 @ 3.60GHz
Motherboard: Supermicro X10SL7-F
RAM: 4x 8GB Crucial CT102472BD160B (ECC - Unbuffered)
Storage: 7x WD Red 4TB
FreeNas OS disks: 2x Samsung 840 250GB
PSU: Corsair RM850x
CPU Fan: Noctua NH-L9iT

I don't know what fans that case comes with, but you must be sure there is enough air flow over the hard drives to keep them cool. Between 25 and 35 Celsius is best for long life.
Don't forget to use a battery backup (UPS) to protect from power outage.

Thank you, will keep that in mind. The case comes with 3x front 120mm fans and a 140mm rear fan. I was thinking of perhaps upgrading them to NOCTUA fans just in case once I free up some more budget next month.

You have the components already right? If not, don’t start out by buying an obselete motherboard, unless the price is fantastic and you understand the limitations (32GB).

I do not have the hardware yet. Would this be a better fit?

Looking at an extra 130 euro's compared the X10 build.

I never suggest getting the latest hardware version because the performance gain is not worth the extra cost.
