Extra Options?

Can anyone give me an example of using the "Extra Options" box in the TFTP service? I know you can enter command line options there, and have looked at the FreeBSD tftpd(8) page at linux.die.net, but I'm lost on the context and implementation. I would like to use the -mapfile option to remap \ to / using rg \\ /. Do I need a separate remap file? If so do I need to edit the inetd.conf to point to it? I'm lost. Could someone help a linux noob out? Please? Thank you.

Note that you want the FreeBSD man page (hyperlinked from the TFTP table in the Guide) as its options are completely different from the Linux implementation.

Thank you for your response dlavigne. Yes, I have looked at that page too. I always find those command option pages difficult to understand, even the ones for DOS commands, which I'm more familiar with. What I'm looking (hoping) for, is some one to give me an example of how to enter the option properly, so I can get the feel for the proper syntax. I'm still trying to solve my pxe booting problem and I believe all that is needed is to remap the slashes used in the path designation. Can the remapping be invoked by a command option? Please help! Thank you.

The Extra Options field will not do what you want it to do as it is limited to the list of options shown in https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=tftpd.

What is the exact problem (with errors) that you are trying to solve?

dlavigne thank you for the fast response! The problem I am having is an inability to read the BCD store because it resides in the \boot\ directory of my tftp root folder on my Freenas box. I end up with the dreaded

File: /boot/bcd
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

error.

I have made sure the BCD store is correct dozens of times. I know the DHCP is working, because I can read the pxeboot.com and other files in the tftp root folder. I have seen others use a remap file to fix this error but I just cant seem to find out the correct way to implement it in FreeNAS. I'm lost when it comes to which file needs to be modified. Is it the inetd.conf? I'm just not sure. Please help. Thank you.

Again, remap is a function available in the Linux version of tftpd, it is not available in the FreeBSD version, which FreeNAS uses. So using it is simply not an available option.

Regarding that error, does something in http://heineborn.com/tech/sccm-2012-troubleshooting-pxe/ fix it? Which version of Windows are you trying to boot?

I see! I did not realize the tftp versions were different. So if remapping \ to / is not possible with freenas it seems there would be no way to use tftp to pxe boot WindowsPE. All I want to do is to boot to the winpe from the network so I can eliminate using usb sticks or cds. Its looking like its not possible with freenas. I am getting the exact error in the heineborn.com page you mentioned. However I AM using the 64 bit boot files. Once I get to the winPE, I will point to install files elsewhere on the network to do the installation or, more likely, a reimaging. I'm just trying to do a diskless boot via pxe using my Freenas box as the tftp server. But I think you have shown me this is not possible. The problem is that the bcd, boot.sdi and boot.wim MUST be located in the \boot folder dictated by pxeboot.com. It is the d*mn slashes that are causing the problem.
