Hello! I am trying to backup my VMs from Freenas so I could use them if hypothetically my SSD fails and I just swap it. How can I do this?

You will need to document your VM hardware (don't forget the NICs MAC address) as there is no simple "export" option. from there you need to backup the VMs disks. How to do this depends on how you made them. Are you using zvols or files?

So the best way to backup your VM disks will be either setting up a sync job with snapshots of your zvols or manually using zfs send. I won't go in depth on the command and I'm no expert but if you google "zfs send tar" you will find some great examples of how to "send" a snapshot to an archive file like a .tar or .gz that you can save to a shared folder and just copy it off to wherever. Just make note of the reverse process too!

I've searched for this zfs send command but can you go a little in detail how to do this?
