Hi all,

I wanted to give freenas a try, I had an atom board lying around with 512ram and i thought why not?

I have now been using it for a while and im quite impressed with the way it performs. I have freenas 8.1 running off a usb and a 1TB sata drive for storage.

As i only have 512ram i created a ufs volume. I currently only that as a guest access cifs share. very simple setup. Just a windows file server really.

However its running out of space and i would like to add another 1tb drive to expand the current available size for the cifs windows share.
What is the simplest way to do this ?

I have done some googleing but kind seem to find a straight forward answer? something like this would be simple to do in windows i could just span the partition. but i like freenas because of its quick boot up and boot reliability.

From the Web UI there is no way to extend a UFS volume. There may be some way to do so from the command line, but if there is, it's black magic and I don't know what it is.

It's called "growfs", it's been around since FreeBSD 4 or thereabouts, but you're strongly warned that it eats filesystems for fun and should not be relied upon for a production-stable result. I'm pretty sure that it missed out on some 32-bit-to-64-bit conversion loving as well.

ufs has no reliable way to expand a disk ( sorry i know about growfs but i do not trust it )
What you can do is mount another disk ( or set of disks) and configure as another filesystem that
the windows may mount as another share.
