Einstellung RAID

Hallo zusammen

Ich rüste gerade mein alter PC um auf ein NAS / SERVER und mit dem Programm TrueNAS.

Nun zu meiner Frage:

Welches RAID muss ich nehmen.
Habe eine Festplatte mit 1 TB, eine mit 2 TB und eine mit 10 TB und eine mit 14 TB.
Auf den Festplatten 1 TB, 2 TB und 10 TB sind die Datenrechte.
Auf der 14 TB wird Sicherheit von den anderen drei Platten.

Ziel ist, dass Daten von 4 Rechner zu kommen und zu wechseln direkt arbeiten können.
Das sind 2 PC und zwei Laptops.

Im Weiteren dass man dann auch von Unterwegs gehört kann.

Wie soll ich da am besten vorgehen.

With the drives you have, there aren’t great options. You could create two mirror vdevs in one pool, with1/2 TB being one vdev, using 1TB, and 10/14 TB being another vdev, using 10TB. You can then in future replace the drives in the individual vdevs and get the higher capacity.

Advantage of such a setup: Easy to expand, it’s only 2 drives to get more capacity.
Disadvantage: You lose 50% capacity because of the use of mirrors. That may not matter to you.

An alternative may be to “shuck” six drives, 8TB or higher only because you need CMR, and run them in raidz2. Better storage use and redundancy than 2-way mirrors, but has the disadvantage of being more costly to expand: You’d need to replace all six drives with higher-capacity ones.

since this is an old PC, check the Ethernet NIC. FreeBSD doesn’t work well with Realtek NICs. If that’s what you have, an add-in Intel i210 or 1000/pro server will solve the issue.
