Edit Permissions is Greyed out and no ACL option on Dataset

Long Story short.. I imported an external USB to the boot USB stick by mistake. This of course filled up the boot USB stick. Then Of course I rebooted and boot failed. I had my config backed up so I just reinstalled over the full USB and imported my config. All was good, but I could not get access to my SMB share. The root account can not access the SMB share any longer. I created a new user and I am able to see the share but can not get write access. I am not sure what to do. When I try to access the permissions on dataset it says Root file permissions can not be edited and there is no ACL option. Attached is the options when I click the 3 dots of the dataset.

Which may make this more complicated, is I did not realize that I went from Freenas to Truenas. When I updated I must have picked the wrong channel?

Is this a file owner thing?

The webui / middleware does not allow changes to permissions on top-level datasets. This is a design decision. The intention is for users to create datasets and share those out rather than sharing top-level datasets. Changes may still be made from the command-line.

so, all of my data is there. Do I just create a new Dataset and then move the data via command Line?

Up to you how you want to address the issue. One underlying problem is:

"root" is not a permitted SMB user starting in 12. This probably caused issues for your share. You can copy your data to a new dataset (if you have enough free space). Alternatively, since you're using a new user for access, you can try to chown your files so that they're owned by the new user account.

Thank you so much for your help. I figured it is an owner thing. I did the chown for now, but will move the data to a new dataset so it is correct.
