DVD/Blue Ray Burner as a Volume

I would like to have a DVD/blue ray drive make backups to a disk periodically. That requires:

1) Back up process/app on NAS itself.
2) Burner drive identifiable as a volume.

I don't see a way to do either of these in FreeNAS. I currently use Nero 7 suite for backups to another internal drive on my PC, but it does not see the DVD burner in my NAS as a destination target. Does anyone know how I can backup to DVD/Blue Ray drive on FreeNAS?
