This is not solely related to rsync.net, as you can use this recipe with any remote host that has ssh and git ... perhaps a second FreeNAS device.

Also note that you do need to have encFS available on the sending FreeNAS device (the source) ... but nothing is required on the destination other than the ability to run git.

This is a problem we've been trying to solve since before Dropbox existed, so we're happy to finally have a simple, elegant way to maintain plaintext locally and ciphertext remotely, and be able to mount the remote ciphertext...

Hmm, in addition to EncFS you also need dvcs-autosync. One of the dvcs-autosync requirements is "Linux kernel with inotify enabled". There is devel/libnotify, but somebody must first port dvcs-autosync to FreeBSD for this "recipe" to work.

Hmm... let me dig a little deeper here. I have no interest (and I assume nobody else does) in cramming a linux kernel onto a FreeNAS device and adding all of that dependency clutter...
