This is not solely related to rsync.net, as you can use this recipe with any remote host that has ssh and git ... perhaps a second FreeNAS device.

Also note that you do need to have encFS available on the sending FreeNAS device (the source) ... but nothing is required on the destination other than the ability to run git.

This is a problem we've been trying to solve since before Dropbox existed, so we're happy to finally have a simple, elegant way to maintain plaintext locally and ciphertext remotely, and be able to mount the remote ciphertext...

Hopefully this is of use to others.
