I needed a new spare 6TB drive and found a good deal on a "Recertified" ST6000NM029A with almost a full five-year warranty. But now I see that the information displayed by smartctl is far less comprehensive than that displayed for SATA drives, so I am wondering whether smartd does a good job of detecting and reporting problems with SAS drives.
