Does m/b need onboard RAID

I know that a raid card is discouraged, but does the motherboard need to have onboard raid capabilities to use FreeNAS?

You only need sata ports. An hba is really ideal for a FreeNAS box

not only do you not need it but it will just cause problems if you use it.
