Does a change or use of new hardware need a new install?

I Believe the above question says it all. Can I change any or all of the hardware (excluding the drives of course)and then just plugin my old thumbdrive, without having to reinstall Freenas?

No reinstall necessary. Depending on the changes and network, you may need to set up the new nic.

Everything should just magically work. You might have to configure networking but that is all. You could also just backup the configuration file and do a factory reset on the os then boot to see of the new hardware works correctly then upload your configuration file.
