And may even want to double check the cable that is plugged in, make sure it's seated all the way and the lights are lit up on the NIC. It's not extremely common but the pins can get bent on the NIC and cause it to not work correctly. I would also reboot the FreeNAS in case it needs to pick up the changes and is just getting stuck for some reason and see if that helps.

...and if the console asks if you want to delete the interface, do that. The idea is to completely reset everything and then start over.

Also... is your system connected to a router/gateway that provides the DHCP service? If not, there is no DHCP server to allocate an IP address to the system, so you will have to assign the FreeNAS server a static IP address.

Did you delete and/or reset the network interface for em0 before configuring it?

When you configure the interface are you using DHCP? Or are you entering a static IP?

Does an IP address (besides 0.0.0.0) show up on the console after you configure em0?

And I'll ask again: is your system connected to a router/gateway that provides the DHCP service? If not, there is no DHCP server to allocate an IP address to the system, so you will have to assign the FreeNAS server a static IP address.

We really can't help you very much if you don't answer our questions, so please don't ignore them.
