Hello all,

I have an older Dell Poweredge 830 with a Perc4e/di Raid (firmware A19) controller and 8 GB of RAM. You can only create a RAID 5 array, but you can configure multiple logical drives. I created two logical drives, one drive at 10 GB and another logical drive at 910 GB. The install sees the 10 GB just fine, but it sees the 910 GB partition as 91GB.

I have a regular SCSI drive that is seen at the correct size.

Thoughts?

Rip that hardware RAID controller out and throw it in the trash. FreeNAS doesn't use them.
Then do some reading:

Okay, thanks. First time using Freenas. I'll take a look at the requirements. Before I do that......will it work with an RAID controller hardware? The reason I ask is before I try it on a more modern server.

FreeNAS needs direct access to the drives because the ZFS file system is also the volume manager and handles maintenance of the drives including making checksum data that allows it to detect and correct errors. If it doesn't have direct access to the drives, much of the functionality of the file system is lost and then you may as well use Linux or even Windowz
