Degraded Pool

Hy All, I have a "RAID1" configured pool with two WD Purple 1TB drives behind a Delock PCIe RAID card because of my motherboard has only 4 SATA ports. (1-Boot SSD, 2-3 "RAID0" two WD Green 2TB HDD).
My problem is that recently the "RAID1" pool always get degraded. After rebooting and resilvering the pool the issues is still there.
My build is nearly 6 years old, is it possible that my motherboard is getting die?
Thank you for your answers!

Hey @gabeszphoto,

behind a Delock PCIe RAID card

Hardware Raid gear is to be avoided with FreeNAS. FreeNAS requires direct access to all hard drives to ensure data integrity. I do not know about this card... Can it be flashed to IT mode ? Is it already ? How the drives are configured ? Are they two logical drives exposed to FreeNAS ? Are they combined as a single logical drive before being exposed to FreeNAS ?

In all cases, hardware Raid and FreeNAS are not meant to go together

I think this card does not make any traditional hardware RAID, only add two more SATA ports.

What do you get from smartctl -a /dev/adaX (change X or even ada to da as appropriate for your disks)

In WebGUI it shows as "unused". The smartctl gives the following:
Code:
root@OurNAS[~]# smartctl -a /dev/ada1
smartctl 7.0 2018-12-30 r4883 [FreeBSD 11.3-RELEASE-p11 amd64] (local build)

/dev/ada1: Unable to detect device type
Please specify device type with the -d option.

Use smartctl -h to get a usage summary

Hey @gabeszphoto,

Bad news : your raid card is indeed preventing FreeNAS from reaching the drives directly. That is why it is unable to probe for the smart data.

You have to remove that card and replace it with a supported solution that will offer FreeNAS the direct and complete control of the drives it needs.

I had built out the RAID card to check it's type. It's a Delock 70137. I have pulled out the card and the SATA connectors I cleaned it too. Before the BIOS menu there is a separated menu for this RAID card and there are booth of the drives shown. But after Freenas boots in the GUI there is still the degraded state and the disk is still unused.

UPDATE: After another update the pool comes back with the two hard drives. The smartctl gives the following:
