Hello everyone, I've write some scripts for my nas and configured my own email address for reports (It works!). My question, should I create a specific email account/address (¿gmail?) to do this tasks? What do you do in order to do that?

THanks!!

It really depends upon how you want to manage your email. I have a special gmail address that I use for monitoring systems and other utility tasks - it keeps those emails separate from my main personal email account, which is convenient for me. However, if you don't want to do that, you could set up a filter in gmail that will tag emails from your FreeNAS system - that way you can easily see when the system sends a report or an alert. Gmail offers some good tools for organizing emails.

Thanks! I'll go this way. :)

A couple of helpful thing to know is that gmail ignores periods within email addresses, i.e. discountwigoutlet@gmail.com and discount.wig.outlet@gmail.com are the same in Gmails eyes.

Gmail also ignores anything you put after a + symbol and before the @ symbol. For example, you could use the address discountwigoutlet+freenas1@gmail.com, and then filter and catogorise, and tag all the emails addressed with the +freenas1 address. You could then use discountwigoutlet+freenas2@gmail.com for your 2nd freenas server you might be using to run your discount wig outlet business.

This also works on many websites, when creating accounts or signing up to newsletters. But a word of warning, I said "many websites" for good reason. Not all websites support using the + symbol and as such, it can cause issues. So if you use it, make sure that it's acutally working and that you're recieving mail from the website / newsletter in question.

[EDIT] It's also worth mentioning Google's App Passwords feature, which is great for when you need to use your email for an app or for email reporting but you don't want to use your Google account's actual password - https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en
