Hi there,

is there any way of fully encrypting an encrypted hdd within FreeNAS or do I need to copy the decrypted hdd to an decrypted one?

Best and thanks,

Is the assumption that you have a single drive that is encrypted (by FreeNas) and you want to copy the contents to another drive (in FreeNas) which is NOT encrypted?

Can you please post a little more information about your situation (if either drive is part of a vdev)? As well, system specs may help.

yes, it's all about FreeNas (9.3.1 stable).
I have an encrypted disc and want to get it fully decrypted. is this possible or do I have to copy all my data first to an unencrypted hdd/partition?

the system runs on a seperate SSD, and the drive is a (right now) standalone WD red 6TB drive that gets soon another brother.
Have everything running together with a Braswell CPU that supports AES-NI .
Already read the manual section (thanks, though). But is is possible to decrypt on the fly the whole HDD?

Best,

Encryption occurs below the filesystem level. If you copy the data to another, unencrypted disk, it will stay unencrypted.
