Hi,
i'm pretty new with freeNAS :D
i have 2 brand new drives which i put into my newly build FreeNAS Server.
they are in a Mirror (I guess ;) )

[sbec@freenas] /# zpool status
pool: Media
state: ONLINE
scan: scrub repaired 0 in 1h38m with 0 errors on Thu Nov 21 21:20:52 2013
config:

NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM
Media ONLINE 0 0 0
mirror-0 ONLINE 0 0 0
gptid/bda31b3a-47e1-11e3-ada7-002264333e78 ONLINE 0 0 0
gptid/be3001eb-47e1-11e3-ada7-002264333e78 ONLINE 0 0 0

errors: No known data errors

I have the Problem, that i see many Messages about Current_Pending_Sector / Offline_Uncorrectable

scmartctl did shows me:
197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0012 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 8
198 Offline_Uncorrectable 0x0010 100 100 000 Old_age Offline - 8
then i did

sysctl kern.geom.debugflags=0x10
dd bs=512 seek=1674782328 if=/dev/zero of=/dev/ada1 count=1
dd bs=512 seek=1674778512 if=/dev/zero of=/dev/ada0 count=1
sysctl kern.geom.debugflags=0x0

the count got reduced by one.... but now, i cant find out oher RBA's to Clean / reallocate

all i see with smartctl -l selftest /dev/ada0
# 1 Short offline Completed without error 00% 372 -
# 2 Extended offline Completed: read failure 80% 354 1674778512
# 3 Short offline Completed without error 00% 343 -
# 4 Extended offline Completed: read failure 80% 275 1674778512
can someone tell me how i find the LBA of 2nd Error ?

Let me ask a stupid question.

Why are you not throwing these drives in the garbage can, and replacing them?

Power loss shouldn't cause those errors. Those errors are defects in the hard drive. I'd do an RMA right now if they were mine.

Yeah, sir, I want to agree with what Cyberjock said.

The errors you have indicate a PHYSICAL problem with the surface media. The correct number of these should be *ZERO*. You should be able to get the drive replaced for free, if it is new, if you say there are offline uncorrectable errors in the SMART report.

Well,
one got corrected... the count went down by 1....
smartctl -a say's:
LBA_of_first_error .....
How can i find 2nd / 3rd /4th.. ?

But i think of a RBA.. 1st have to find out how to do this ;):(

what also seems pretty strange to me, is that both brand new Drives have exactly same amount of invalid Sectors....

I would still be replacing them, even if you can "fix" them. A disk that's brand new shouldn't have failing sectors already.

I did a "replace" ... wiped the offline Disk and "smartctl -t long" it
now the Current_Pending_Sector / Offline_Uncorrectable R back to 0

I will try to LBA the Disk's.. as its not so easy here in Switzerland... we don't have a local Seagate branch.. i have to clarify with the Shop i bought them.

Thanks 4 you’re Help / Advice Regards
