Crucial MX500 pending sectors issue

Hello all,

I've been having this issue with FreeNAS 11.3 as well. I have several pools based on Crucial MX500 1Tb drives that started reporting alerts for pending sectors.

So far this error seems to be caused by the drive when it's too busy and not a good indicator of a pending failure.
Is there a reason why this alert is still showing in TrueNAS?

I'm trying to clarify if this is a real concern or I should add the flag -C 0 to my S.M.A.R.T checks and forget about it. The drives are less than an year old with minor write wear.

This was “fixed” in a smartmontools update included with 12.x. That field should no longer be alerted on for MX500 SSDs.

Do note that the disks exhibit monstrous write amplification in conjunction with this reporting behavior, and only hacky workarounds are available to mitigate this. Not a huge concern for a boot disk, but it is for data pools.
