Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I would like to set up a crontab which emails my current external IP address.

I was going to try outputting an IFCONFIG to a temp file, then emailing that file to me on a daily basis (It seems my service provider likes to change my IP address quite frequently). This way I'll have access to my current IP when it changes.

Any other suggestions, or better ideas are very welcome! :)
Thank you in advance.

Why not use the built-in DDNS service of FreeNAS and get a free account with no-ip.com or dyndns.com or one of the many other sites that do the same? Then you can use one of their free domain names or lookup your IP address online...

http://doc.freenas.org/index.php/Dyamic_DNS

I had that set up previously however, when I had it running it actually registered my INTERNAL ip address as opposed to my external. Every time I tried connecting to "myname.dyndns.com" it would try connecting to 192.168.1.5...

I had to disable it, as it caused a whole bunch of problems with DNS resolution.
