Greetings,

I recently saw this error in the Alerts: "Device: /dev/da5 [SAT], 24 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors."

So I ran this command: smartctl -t long /dev/da5

I waited until it finished and then ran: smartctl -a /dev/da5

The Self-test log reveals No Errors(see below).

Does that mean I can dismiss this error? Or should I continue to look further and how do I do that?

That drive has 3.7 years on it.
I would replace it in the array with a new one. Then badblocks that drive with "-wsvb 4096" and see what happens. If it fails then warranty return (if possible) / RMA or throw it away. OR if it passes a long test smart test after badblocks completes then keep it as a spare.

When I get this kind of error I don't even bother with any further diagnosis. I replace it immediately. These days, in contrast to around 1990, drives have quite some capabilities to "cover up" internal errors up to a point. When 1 error shows up (and you have 24) it means that a ton of things has gone wrong already.

and you have 24
Actually, it's 40 now.

@JBelthoff, when you first got the notification, your drive had 24 suspicious sectors. The long SMART test increased that number to 40. That's not a good sign. I agree it's time to replace the disk.

I didn't spot the 40.
Definately replace - is it under warranty?
