Hello,

I've seen several people say they have a provisioned SSD for booting FreeNAS and I was wondering how I would do this myself. I'm assuming they provision the drive on windows and then install FreeNAS on that new partition.

My main question is will the rest of the drive still be usable to the NAS? I have a 120GB SSD for booting, so if I'm correct I could partition like 20GB from that and then use the remaining 100GB for storage?

Thanks in advance,

You should be careful to note the warnings there and be aware that if you do it, you're setting yourself up for failure down the road somewhere.

An update may eventually mess up your boot pool setup and your single drive will be a catastrophic failure waiting to happen. Proceed that way only with data you want to lose eventually.

How much utility to you expect to get out of a 100GB partition?
