Connecting to NAS... Make sure the NAS system is powered on and connected to the network

Hello to all

I am a little bit new to all this, and just decided to give this FreeNAS thing a go, but I guess I'm stuck at the 2nd step.
Also tried googling about this issue, but all I've found were some posts from 2014-ish with no real answers or solutions.

The version in question is 11.2-RELEASE-U1

Hardware:
  • Gigabyte A88X chipset board + AMD A8 + 8Gb DDR3
  • IBM M1015 in IT mode (but i guess this isn't really relevant now)
  • Originally used onboard Realtec NIC ; later added Intel I340 card I had laying around
So, installation goes well, but since i don't have it hooked up to a router i get the standard "web interface is at 0.0.0.0"
  • I update the IP and Subnet mask to match my LAN. Try to ping it from windows, and all works fine so far.
  • Then i try to connect via firefox ; chrome and all return the same message "Connecting to NAS... Make sure the NAS system is powered on and connected to the network"
  • I tried resetting the configuration 5 times to re-set for each of the LAN ports.
  • Disabled all and any anti virus/firewall + adblockers in browsers ; still the same
Now, I've tried the 192.168.0.XXX/Legacy and it opened the old interface

So, basically, my questions would be:
- Does anyone have any hints , or if i missed any treads which already handle this can point me in the right direction?
- Do I really "need" the new interface, and would it make my life as a new used easier?

Thank you to all, and have an amazing day.

Gigabyte A88X chipset board
This is less than ideal for many reasons, prime among which is the fact that it is a gaming system, but in addition to that, there is the fact that it carries a Realtek® GbE LAN chip. These interfaces are not well supported outside of Windows and if you look on the specifications page for the board, it only lists Windows as a supported operating system:

This board may cause problems and creates limitations. You may want to get something better at some point.

Good to know.

This is a MUCH better choice than the integrated NIC and it should work fine.

When you configured the IP address, did you also configure the default route, because it does need access to the internet. That is a bug of the new UI that should be fixed in the not too distant future.

Of you can get to the "Legacy" interface, you should be able to get the new standard interface working also.

No, you don't need the new User Interface. Most of the configuration guides are written for the old User Interface, so you would be well served by the old UI.

Here is one of those guides:
