So, now that I have my FreeNAS running for about two weeks now, I'd like to try something. There are two specific things that I want to do:
  1. Set up Transmission so that if I access internally within my network (192.168.0.x), no authentication is required. However, I want to set it up, via port-forwarding so that I can access the web interface externally with authentication. Is that possible?
  2. I would also like to disable the prompt for the download folder, as it is always going to point to /media .
So, the big question is.... how do I go in and make the necessary mods in the jail?

most basic options, like the download folder are available in the transmission webui. other, options are available in the transmission configuration menu, FreeNAS WebUI > left panel > Plugins
more advanced options are available in the config
/var/db/transmission/settings.json

as far as I know there's no way to allow no RPC authentication for certain hosts, but have it for others.
but you could accomplish this by having nginx proxying web requests for transmission.
