Hi there,

I'm new to freeNAS software and I would like to ask about how the file sharing is working/reporting concurent access to files, before I start installing the FreeNAS. I beleive CIFS will be my way of getting file to/from the NAS.

One of the tasks will be accesing the same Excel file from tho WXPPro stations within the same LAN...
Now I'm using a station as a file server, and I'm used and satisfied to have the Read Only message while trying to open an already opened file.
Please let me know if will it work in the same way under the FreeNAS or should I look for other file server OS.
THANKS

Well, each program does it's own thing with regards to locked files. You should expect the read only message when 2 people open the same excel file. But some programs like Microsoft Access CAN allow simultaneous access in certain circumstances... So if you are concerned you should just try it and find out if it will work how you want.

OK, I've installed a small FreeNAS and tried to open an excel file from several station. IT IS WORKING perfect, the flags are working as in natural windows networks.

So, thanks for the advice.
