Welp, my two chassis were declined by the APO to send to me because they were too big so now I need to find an alternate solution in country.

So far, the best I can find is the ED424H65-T3. It is SATA III and uses 6 expanders (See attachement). Any reasons why this would not work out? As I find more I will post them here.

So they wrote me back and they have a "4U" version of the backplane. It is basically 2x 2U backplane in 1 chassis. At least with this I only need 4 mini-sas cables instead of 6.

I am waiting to hear back about the odd 14pin power connector on the left. Hopefully they have a adapter if I don't buy PSU from them.

What chassis's were you considering and were denied, i dont know how i feel about a off brand chassis with offbrand backplane, etc.

Those are both very nice chassis, but a great name brand, Norco has a chassis thats 4U but i am not sure about the depth, it very well maybe too large as well .

Why don't you just go to a local shipping company and have them sort out the red-tape of customs, etc. for you? I've shipped all sorts of stuff to the CIS and they're almost as bad as the USA for all their bureaucratic red-tape. I'm sure there are ways to get it to you without having to use APO.

Customs isn't the issue, cost is. Shipping it FedEx out here would cost me a fortune.

My thoughts is that I pick up one of these 4U servers to use for the next 6 months and send the Supermicro to my parents house in the US. When I pack out for my next post, I can put the 2 Supermicro Chassis in my shipment.

Fedex is usually one of the most expensive ways of shipping packages. USPS to foreign address is usually cheaper. In one place I lived, the expat community set up a shipping service stateside that sends pallets quarterly. People split shipping costs. Ended up being significantly cheaper than USPS postage. It might be worth asking some people who've lived there for a while what they do.
