Hello,

I wanted to set up a jail to centralize a few systems I ran at home. Syslogd should be enough but I'm unable to make it run and I fear this might be a particularity in iocage.

It only crashes if I enable a listener and here is the error I got:

Code:
Starting syslogd.
allowaddr: rule 0: numeric, addr = 192.168.17.0, mask = 255.255.255.0; port = 514
allowaddr: rule 1: numeric, addr = 192.168.15.0, mask = 255.255.255.0; port = 514
can't open /dev/klog (2)

I guess that files and folders not accessible are not the problem but the initial "can't open /dev/klog" seems suspicious. Can't find more information, manuals are pretty straightforward so maybe someone with knowledge can help.

Were you able to resolve this? If not, which version of FreeNAS? Which version of FreeBSD is installed in the jail?

I'm still stuck and don't know what to try. Can't find any information regarding freenas or regular freebsd installations.

FreeNAS-11.2-U3
11.2-RELEASE-p9 (for the jail)

Any idea is welcome.

Edit: Ok it was pretty stupid from my side. I just misread what de default option -ss did. And tried to launch the listener with it enabled. Obviously it doesn't make any sense. I just checked again after updating the thread.

I guess sometimes is better to just left a problem for a few days and retake it with clearer mind.
