Hi there,

On my desktop/home network I can no longer access the FreeNAS forum because I get the following error:

"401 Unorthorized
Your IP address is temporarily locked out due to DOS attempts"

I'm not sure why I am getting this message, my only guess is that because I have about 100 tabs open in my browser, and a fair portion, I would guess about 15 have various posts from the FreeNAS forum open. And when I start my browser or restart my computer my browser opens all these pages at the same time. And the FreeNAS forum classifies that is a denial of service attack of some sort?

I am posting this off my phones cellular connection.

Can someone offer some advice or help about why this is happening and how I can go about fixing it?

I have a *lot* more FreeNAS tabs open than just that...

But do be aware that the forums have been having some trouble with Korean porn website spammers. I'm not aware of the specifics of what the iX sysadmin might be doing to try to combat this at the moment, but I would suggest seeing if you can wait it out. @dlavigne may have more comments.

Good to know! Well it must not be that then.
Oh okay, that's frustrating.

I first noticed it last night, which here was 24 hours ago. And I thought I might be able to access the forums again today.

I will keep waiting it out.

Thanks jgreco.

Dru-

I have IP access (I demanded that IPs be listed in my basic view when we switched to Xenforo). I can tell you what IPs he's using when he posts. ;)

I can now access the forum again!
Did you guys do something at that end for my IP?

Or did it automatically sort it self out?

I had the same problem. All I was doing was reading posts on the forum early one morning. Things like accessing a new page in a multi page post. I then went to do a search and wham. End of access. All I did was enter the search parameters and hit the enter key. No search results only the "401 Unauthorized screen". Today I tried the forum and it currently works again. I must have been trying to access too much information to read.

Same issue here when posting from my home. I get the same notice about locked out due to excessive DOS attempts from my IP. I'm an extreme networking noob, so not sure which IP address to give you:

AT&T Uverse set-up.
Broadband IPv4: 108.251.222.86
Gateway IPv4: 108.251.220.1

Don't feel bad, I got locked out for about two weeks. Got more productive during that time, haha.

If there were an issue caused by loading too many tabs to the same site (FreeNAS Forums IP) then for Firefox there is an add-on called Configuration Mania which has an option under 'Session store' for "don't load .. tabs until selected" which should solve that issue. The add-on Tab Mix Plus also offers a style change for "unloaded tabs" in the 'display' section under tab 'tab'.

Are you connecting through some type of encrypted connection? I'm wondering if it's possible that Google actually intercepted your search traffic and blocked you based on receiving DOS attacks from that same IP (from different users). I'm going to need more information on what happened though to be able to make any kind of diagnosis. Can you get me an exact error message if it happens again?

I was using just my home wifi network. I got the error on both my mac and iPhone if I tried to connect directly. It only allowed a connect if I went through the vpn actually. I'll post the error next time if it happens again. I was locked out for about 36 hours
