Hello, I am running FN 11.1-U5.

I am looking to run an Ubuntu server VM within FreeNAS where I will run Mumudvb or Tvheadend to stream DVB television from the aerial to the network.

I want to pass through a USB port or controller so I can connect my USB DVB tuner to the VM.

Is this possible in any way?

You need to use a mature hypervisor for things like that to work and work reliably.

Is there long term plans for this though? Many many members seem to be asking for this both here and reddit?

This is not up to iXsystems/FreeNAS. They "simply" have integrated bhyve into FreeNAS and added a webUI. For plans related to bhyve please refer to http://bhyve.org/
