Step 1: FreeNAS is installed the red Alert lamp is on

Step 2: enter a password for the admin user and it will turn on green

Step 3: forget the password

Step 4: use the console setup on the host, where FreeNAS is installed on with option 7 Reset WebGUI login credentials

Step 5: login without password and green Alert lamp

Bug?

I just tried this and you're right. It appears to be a bug. I'm going to leave my test bed open overnight... this may be related to another issue I've seen ;)

15 minutes later and the alert turned red ;) I'm not sure exactly how long it took since i walked away and made a phone call. But I came back and the window was still open with the red light blinking. So it's not a bug, it just doesn't immediately give warning. My guess is the alert light checks the system status every 10 minutes or so.

It is exactly as you described it. It takes about 5 minutes until the lamp is red again. That's actually not too bad, if you know it. But otherwise it may confusing.

I forgot to mention that I got an email from my FreeNAS server after I reset my password.

Subject: Critical Alerts
Body: You have to change the password for the admin user (currently no password is required to login)

I'm pretty sure I received this email within seconds of resetting the password based on the time I received the email.
