Bhyve Clock Drift

One of my VMs runs a program that relies on being in-sync with internet time. I think its well known that Bhyve has a weakness here. I was wondering what others have done?

I have been using a program called Dimension 4 that is freeware and have it updating every 3 or so minutes. If I let it go to 15 minutes, it finds a correction of around ~1000ms. Which isn't terrible, but I would like it to be right on. Setting it to every 3 minutes keeps it to around ~100ms difference which is negligible.

Is this the best solution for this?

So you not just using ntpd with a cron job? I guess you never said what the guest OS was so it's hard to offer advice.

I'm sure there is a reg key or some way to tweak the built in ntp client frequency. As you know bhyve has no guest tools like virtual box or VMware.

All hypervisors have clock drift issues, this isn't anything unique to bhyve.

Sync your clock to internet time or a local NTP server frequently.
