For a NAS for office use with up to 10 people I could use a server with 6 x 600GB HDDs or 12 x 300GB HDDs.
Which configuration do you think would be better?
I have 32GB RAM and the CPU is a XEON 6 Core.

To get any meaningful answer, you need to explain what services you need to provide (just serving files? SMB? iSCSI? services from jails/VMs?) and your requirements (performance, data integrity).

Thanks for the reply.
Mainly SMB and some services, for example for backups or NextCloud. Not VMs because I have another server for these.
I certainly focus a lot on data integrity. Considering the modest number of users (10), that the processor is a Xeon with 6 cores and that I already have 32GB of RAM, I assumed that I should have good performance.

Since those disks will be used, I would take the number of hours they have run so far into account. Knowing how they have been treated in terms of thermals would also be relevant. You should have same spares (relatively new) at hand. But personally, I would buy 3 new disk and have them in a 3-way mirror.

Office use implies storing Word, Excel, or PowerPoint files. Video editing off of the NAS would be a different story. In that case I would indeed see no performance issues.
