Hi,
I am looking for a USB storage device that I can use as boot drive for TrueNAS and also as system dataset. Until now, I used a USB flash drive, but it died after a few months, probably because of the frequent writes to the system dataset.
I don't want the system dataset to be on the hard drives because it's a home NAS that is used infrequently, so I want the drives to spin down because of the noise.
A simple solution would be to buy an external SSD with a USB type A interface, however I only found some that are quite expensive and overkill in terms of storage capacity.
So, are there any USB drives that have similar read/write durability to SSDs?
