Hello,

Please what is easiest way for automatic incremental backup with history? (somethink as rdiff-backup)
Is it possible in FREENAS?

For example:

working hdd:
/mnt/work

backup hdd:
/mnt/backup

I need backup the "work" to "backup" every day at 18.00 (setting in cron is not problem) . But problem is what aplication can to do this action. I tried snapshots but it does not work if I am right with whole files.

And I need to hold history of backups for two weeks.

Thank you in advance for any help or advice.

Just to expand a bit. You will set up automatic snapshots of work for every day at 1800. Then you will set up replication from work to backup immediately after. The 'remote host' will be 'localhost', and you will point the replication to /mnt/backup. If you want to back up only certain datasets within work, you would set up snapshots and replication for each separately.

You will be able to access any of the daily snapshots on backup when you need them, going back as far as necessary. You should definitely test this after you get it working.

You can set the snapshots to automatically be deleted when they get to any age. So, if you set it for 30 days, you won't be able to go back farther than that. The length of time is more or less limited by the capacity of the backup pool.

Replication will be automatic after each snapshot.
The capacity is also needed on the main pool. As the snapshots will resist on both with their lifetime.

Hello,

Thank you a lot for answers! I very much appreciate it!

I will try to set it. I am not in work now. I must create virtual session.

Best Regards

Replication will be automatic after each snapshot.
Right, but only if you set up the replication tasks for the period when the snapshots take place.

Hello,

The snapshots are ready.

I can set the replication task but I got error message about permission denied. Screen added.

Where can I do the fault during configuration of SSH?

The service SSH is ON. With putty I can be connected.

The remote machine is "localhost" and I did the scan of SSH key.

Screen added.

Thank you in advance what I can do wrong.

Do not be confused. I have three different replication tasks for testing. In final will be only one task.

I have same error message with one task only.
