Ok I have a friend who just bought 2 external 5tb Seagate hard drives. He was going to install them in an URAID server until he read on some forum that these drives have a APM setting of 128 and won't last very long from the head parking unless he changes the APM to 255. So now he has offered to sell them to me. So my question is..do I have my APM setting incorrect? Reading all the FREENAS setup guides and most people I know who use FREENAS set their APM settings to 128. Are these APM values the same or are they something completely different?

Until someone tells me other wise Im gonna assume the settings are the same. So every Google search I've done says that an APM setting of 128 will not spin down a drive but the constant head parking will kill a drive. An ideal APM value of 250 will keep head parking to minimum. So I ended up purchasing the drives and sure enough with the 128 APM setting about every 8 minutes or so you could hear "click, click" of the heads parkings.I adjusted it to 255 and no more clicking.

I just adjusted it in Advanced Hard Drive Parameters. Not sure about WD drives but it worked with these Seagates
