api geli unlock volume

Hi everybody,
I'm trying to unlock an encrypted volume via api with http://api.freenas.org/resources/storage.html#unlock , but I've some trouble. If we refer to recovery_key (string) , this should be base64 encoded. Now the recovery_key string is the decoded base64 file in data/geli ? if so, when I try to decode it with base64 --decode file command , I receive "illegal character". How can I compile the json parameter recovery_key correctly?

If you do not find the answer to this, open a ticket at bugs.freenas.org so a dev can determine if the API and its docs are doing the right thing.
