Hi All,

Let say I have a 700meg movie of the CEO on the latest issues we have with COVID-19 and I want all the sites to be able to play it without killing our WAN.

Is there a plugin we can run on all the FreeNAS/TrueNAS Core filers that would give us a global filesystm that we could plunk a file down at 5:30 PM and the next morning have it replicated to all sites around the world?

Is there a bounty area for the developers so that end users can sumbint money to get plugins written?

Thanks,
Joe

If you want unidirectional replication from a central point, rsync is your friend. Just create a dataset and run rsync on an hourly basis to copy it to your other filers. You can make it hierarchical so that the master copies it to several near-ish servers, and they in turn fan out to others.

Kris do you think IPFS will be production ready soon?

It would be an awesome tool, but for now the private swarm appears to be something they are discussing and your data can leak out if a cluster member is mis-configured.

It seems that corporate America would die for some of these tools and features that allow us to force our data to stay inside the network.

Thanks,
Joe

IPFS does have a way to run a "private" network, which is something I'm very interested in as well:

I'd suspect its a year or so away from being more mature though. I've played with it off and on for a while now, and its come a long way. Seems like they've made enough progress that it could be considered in some environments for sure.

Hi Kris,

I will have to take a look, I have a large ISO that was made in Europe and I need to see if there is a way to "distribute" it inside the company in the next 30 days or less. I will have to find a way to publish my results.

Thanks,
Joe

We have a plugin today on Core/Enterprise for Syncthing - https://syncthing.net/

Maybe give that a look, it may do exactly what you want here.
