Okay, so I'm running out of space (no surprise there). I'm planning on building either a 6x4TB or 8x4TB vdev and was thinking I might add the Vdev and stripe is with my existing one to simplify management. I wouldn't need to create a new share or datastore and so on. Are there any downsides to this configuration or gotchas I should be aware of? Might it be a better idea to just have two pools? As an aside the existing pool is running on 7200RPM disks and the new one will likely be 5400/5900 RPM disks and I've heard both sides of the argument for not mixing disk speeds in the same pool.

You can mix and match, just understand that the total I/O and possible throughput (assuming it isn't limited to your LAN connections) is going to be a hybrid of the two vdevs.

Having two pools is very much a personal choice and so I won't try to answer a question like that.
