adding existing drives with content

i want to make a switch from smeserver to freenas, but all the drives are EXT4
Will that be a problem with freenas?

Yes it will.

Freenas doesn't read EXT4 drives.

they should be added through freenas and formatted, and then restore the data? That is the only option then?
i don't have that much free space on other devices :(

sandoz, yeah, that's the only real solution. Even other filesystems FreeNAS CAN read are mostly only read-only and meant to be used for data migration. FreeNAS is designed for use with ZFS with UFS as an option for low-resource systems.
