Hi, was just thinking that a nice feature to have in the freenas gui would be full ACL support.

Are you referring to Windows ACLs? FreeNAS is designed so that you can configure enough permissions to give access to a CIFS share, with the expectation that the client will manage the desired ACLs on the Windows side.

Is there any plan to be able to force root directory ACL's on the actual filer using freenas in the future?

Not that I know of. Why do you see it as an advantage to do so?

If you really wanted to 'force' it you could create a cronjob that simply sets the permissions to whatever you want at whatever interval you want. I have some files that get messed up permissions because of the different users, so I have a script that runs every 4 hours that fixes any potential issues.

I know this thread is about windows acl's, but do the various samba options help? For instance, I set umask on one of my shares to that files / directories always get created with g+w, even when the client doesn't specify group write access. I'm not sure if you can do similar with windows acl's.
