I just upgraded from 9.3.1 to 9.10.1 two weeks ago. All my jails continued to function correctly after the update. But being I wanted an up to date base OS for a few of the jails I decided to rebuild them. The 10.3 template downloaded and installed correctly and I've rebuilt all my jails except for one 9.3 plugin that is still running. They are all functioning correctly and I am able to update all of them.

It was a bit of a mess when 9.10 first came out but obviously has been corrected since. I wouldn't be worried about updating at this point but of course YMMV and make sure you have backups before you do just in case it goes sideways.

Do the jails (not plugins) created at 9.3 still update through ports/pkg once upgraded to 9.10?

I've been sat on 9.3.1 but probably should think about updating. I might even rebuild a few in 9.10 but I'd still like the option to update ones that worked in 9.3. And no need to delete the jails dataset to download the 9.10 template and/or create jails?

Thanks

Well as it stands, I just tried a fresh, "OOB" ISO of 9.10 latest on a VM and the plugin experience is miserable.

Code:

I've tried sickbeard and got.
Sep 16 16:20:09 freenas manage.py: [middleware.exceptions:37] [MiddlewareError: Failed to download http://download.freenas.org/plugins/9/x64: [Errno 54] Connection reset by peer]

Trying Plex I'm getting
Sep 16 16:51:15 freenas manage.py: [middleware.exceptions:37] [MiddlewareError: Failed to download http://download.freenas.org/plugins/9/x64: [Errno 54] Connection reset by peer]

Couchpotato:
Sep 16 17:02:51 freenas manage.py: [middleware.exceptions:37] [MiddlewareError: Unable to find template!]

Transmission:
Sep 16 17:04:21 freenas manage.py: [middleware.exceptions:37] [MiddlewareError: Unable to find template!]

No idea why that is going on but I'm trying to eliminate the cause of this plex error yet I can't even get a jail / plugin up and running on a brand new fresh install.

You haven't set up your networking for freenas yet. Make sure you have gateway and nameservers setup.

Mine continued to work just as they did before the upgrade. I still have one 9.3 plugin jail and it still updates as well.

Not in my case. I just created a new jail with default settings and it downloaded the 10.3 template and created the new jail. They work side by side just fine.

Thank you, I saw it picked up some stuff from DHCP but I'm figuring, because it's a server, it wants confirmation from the owner of the exact setting.s
Also I had NAT instead of Bridged (or vice versa) on my VM configuration so it just decided to jump to a diff subnet I don't know of.

I've changed NAT to Bridged and re set it up from scratch and it looooooooks like it might be ok.

Now, any idea how I can map a DIFFERENT FreeNAS machine on the network as a media share? I'm trying to test a Plex reboot bug.

Ok it's mostly working now under a VM, now to mount a share on another freenas server.

Am I right in thinking the only change an update makes is to the boot device? Nothing is changed on the pool so you could boot to the previous version if there were any issues?

I know I'm being overly irrational about upgrading, but when everything is working perfectly, I'm always nervous about changing things unnecessarily after issues in the past :D

Occasionally there are updates to the ZFS version with a system update. But it isn't applied automatically and there are no ZFS updates with 9.10.1.
