Hi!

After doing the update today Freenas won't boot. Every boot option (even the older ones) seems to produce the same error.

What can I try to solve this?

Thanks for your help,
Philipp

Please post your hardware.

Also check in the BIOS to see that you're booting from the right device. If it's a USB drive, it might have failed. Try installing on another USB drive and see if it can locate your pool.

Hi!

My hardware is a HP Microserver (N36L) with 8GB Memory, a Transcend USB Stick with Freenas, 2 x WD Green (old) and 2 x WD Red (new) configured as RAID 10.
I don't think the problem is with my HDDs, they are recognized by the BIOS just fine. I can't see even an attempt to boot FreeBSD. All I can see is GRUB and the next second the error message. It seems to me, the error is inside the GRUB boot script. Maybe the ZFS on the stick is corrupted. Is there a way to check this without a second FreeBSD?

Thanks,
Philipp

What I meant was - is the USB stick OK? Some BIOSes mysteriously reassign the boot device and attempt to boot from the wrong device. Check to see that it's trying to boot from the USB stick.

Quite likely. USB sticks aren't the most durable component. (This is why 9.3 allows mirrored boot devices, which you might want to look into.)

I suppose you could see what happens if you put it in another computer. It won't be able to read it due to its format, but it should at least attempt to mount it. If it won't mount or if the size looks way too small, the drive has likely failed.

The only way you can really check is to get another USB stick and install FreeNAS onto it. Try to boot from that. While you're out buying USB sticks, get two so you can mirror them - if one of them fails, you will automatically boot from the other and you'll have time to get a replacement.

Stick was ok, I formatted it and reinstalled FreeNAS. It seems it got corrupted while updating. It's just my private Box with my photos and documents. I can live with not having access for a few days, so I don't think I'll put a second flash drive in. Thanks for your help!
