Hi,
I just bought my new disks for my first FreeNAS powered NAS. I came by 6x3TB WD RED disks relatively cheap and wanted your opinions on what would be the wisest way to configure them, performance wise. No one loves loosing data, but the data stores is by no means essential (mainly my ripped DVDs and BluRays). My main interest is performance, I would love to get speeds up to 100MB/s or so from this, almost saturation my Gigabit ethernet card. So with that in mind
Would you recomend a single vdev of 6 disks in a RAIDZ2 configure
or
a zpool with two vdevs with 3 disks in RAIDZ configuration?
What speaks to me with the second one is the ability to exchange only 3 disks next time I upgrade (to 4 or 5TB disks maybe?) and get the increase in storage, the other option would see me replace 6 disks before anything happens. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
