For weeks I am thinking of building my own NAS server and today I stumbled over something very interesting. I would like to hear your thoughts or maybe someone has even experience.

First I stumbled over a 5x 5.25 bay chassis from iStar (iStart s-915). I thought, okay, 2x 3bay hotswap chassis combined with a mini ITX motherboard awesome. I would have even 1x 5.25inch bay left.

Now I found an internal 5.25inch ups purchasable over amazon for next to no money. A manual and some other specs can be found here.

I mean, no external ups would be great and a mini ITX chassis with and internal UPS would be mind blowing... What do you guys think?

Ok.. look at that picture. Really.

Would you trust a company that produce a package with that kind of cover to make a product to protect your computer and NOT screw something up in engineering?

That box alone screams of "cheap as heck and gonna ruin your hardware later".

Ignoring that... if that was such a great idea, don't you think one of the very public UPS distributors would be selling such a device already? ;)
