Hi,

I'm a FreeBSD and ZFS user, I'd quite like to use FreeNAS as a Windows server for simplicity and the comprehensive GUI. Unfortunately it seems I cannot with the hardware I want to use. I have a server with 2x 2TB disks and I want to configure them in a mirror but according to the documentation I've read I must install FreeNAS OS on a completely seperate drive. Is there no getting around this? If not I'll just have to do a manual Samba on FreeBSD install :(

thanks for your help, Andy.

On a completely different device (so it is separate from your storage). Install on a USB thumb drive and be happy.

just use a usb stick for your os. Freenas doesn't need a disk to run the os just something to boot off and write the occasional log to. Other than that everything happens in memory.
