I have decided to ask the experts for help as nothing I have tried has worked and seems to have made some things worse

Environment

Freenas 11.2beta 2 running on an N40 HP microserver (192.168.1.237) with a just added 10GBE card for peer to peer networking (192.168.111.1) 5 drive raidz

client Windows 10 (192.168.1.196) same 10GBE card added(192.168.111.2)

I have not yet been able to make a working connection over the 10Gbe link although I can tell packets are being sent

I had never configured any users on this box beyond the standard(its in my home lab) after reading a thread that suggested I needed a user I created one and the situation got worse....

Connections are now asking for a user and password and not working either with the new user or root...
lots of these in log

smbd_smb2_tree_connect: reject request to share [IPC$] as 'FREENAS\pat' without encryption or signing. Disconnecting.
[2018/08/11 12:24:39.642401, 1] ../source3/smbd/smb2_tcon.c:227(smbd_smb2_tree_connect)

pat is the new user I created

odd behavior
if I try to browse \\freenas\media I get the password prompt and cant connect
if I try to browse \\192.168.1.237 works perfectly

freenas is defined in hosts file as 192.168.1.237

Thanks in advance

Pat
