Hello,

I'm searching for an advice in order to connect my Freenas Plex Server to the Plex account. No matter what I do following error is received:

For Plex installation I have followed these two guides (no customization, basically I installed Plex stright from the Plugin menu in Freenas, DHCP option):

I get this message (login is successfully)

I did expect this setup screen instead (picture is not from my setup - I have copied the picture from the forums):

Furthermore I replaced MS Edge Beta browser with Firefox.

1) Complete install of new Plex jail (DHCP: 192.168.100.114)
2) Stop the jail
3) Mount storage to the Plex jails
4) Add allowedNetworks="192.168.100.0/255.255.255.0, 192.168.5.0/255.255.255.0" to Preferences.xml
4a) firewall rules is ANY between the two subnets
5) restart the jail
6) login to Plex server using 192.168.100.114:32400/web

New in Firefox: This error is displayed 5 times. I did continue each time by clicking 'Sign In'

Finally, my login was allowed but again same error

When you look at your router status page, what does your router think your external IPv4 address is?

What does WhatIsMyIP.Host think your IPv4 address is?

No need to publish details. Are they the same address?

I would go to the Plex.tv website and verify that the account you are trying to use exists and is good order.

No difference. This issue is starting to make my head spin.

WAN IP is the same here and there. My Freenas is setting behind a dedicated PFsense box, configured as gateway and with HAproxy etc. Freenas have its own subdomain with Let's Encrypt certificate through ACME and HAproxy. I can't see this impact current Plex setup (for now).

@Redcoat Not sure that is implicit "in good order". To stay on the safe path, I created a new (again) Plex jail and made use of a gmail account which have never been used to sign-in to Plex. Firefox reacted 1:1 to previous behavior.

Do you actually have a Plex.tv account?

Go to www.plex.tv, My Account, and check the account information, edit/correct if not.

How about simplifying this setup, and then layering things on again?

As in: No subdomain, Let's Encrypt, HAproxy etc. for Plex. Just a simple portforward of 32400 from WAN to internal IP of Plex. See whether this works. Then start layering things like certificate and subdomain on again.

Good. That tells me that you are not in a double-NAT situation or behind Carrier-Grade NAT (CGNAT).

DNS rebind protection may be preventing you from setting up a connection to Plex. There are some notes for pfSense to address this in the Plex support article How to Use Secure Server Connections.

Then start layering things like certificate and subdomain on again.

Good point. There are ports that Plex requires that pfSense should not be blocking. Refer to the Plex support article Troubleshooting Remote Access for details. You may want to also check that your ISP is not blocking ports on a network level.

Agree, that's why I haven't configured subdomain, HAproxy, etc for Plex. Apparently, something is still complex in my setup.

Thanks - I wasn't sure about the need for port forward. This I have added as a simple NAT rule. I can scan 32400 to be open if the Plex jail is turned on. The Port is closed if the jail is turned off. It should be correct this way? But still 'no soup for me' in Plex.

Do you happen to know a proper PFsense configuration? It's difficult for me to just apply changes - I'll admit my PFsense has become a little complex. I'm afraid to destroy what is running smoothly by fooling around trying configurations to make Plex work. These days Internet downtime isn't popular.

Right now, the best thing for me might be a PFsense sandbox allowing me to play around freely. I'll try figuring that out, and return to this thread when I have been around your suggestions.
Alternatively, I should rely on luck and hope for someone in this forum who also have a PFsense sitting between WAN and Freenas.

It has really become a great challenge to configure this correctly. Please chip in any ideas you may think of.

I have carefully looked into the Plex support pages you suggested. Without these, I wouldn't have come this far.

This I have now fixed in pfSense

In pfSense System > Advanced I have tried without a tick in this setting. No difference is experienced.

There are ports that Plex requires that pfSense should not be blocking. Refer to the Plex support article Troubleshooting Remote Access for details.

This is also solved in pfSense

The alias Plex holds the IP for my Plex server.
The alias PlexRemoteAccess holds the IPs referred to in this article and this list of IPs.

I'm still wondering whether the workaround for NOT being on the same subnet is correct in my case.

Yes, you're right - this results in 'no soap' error message

Looking at the Plex forums, they're suggesting to remove these settings in preferences.xml, then possibly claiming the server.

Locked out (no soup for you) after changing password

Changed my password after getting an email notice that someone else had accessed my account. Password change successful and was able to login to my account but I got the message “No soup for you… You do not have access to this server” Did some googling and found that this may be the issue...

Issue resolved by connecting freenas to another inteface in pfsense.

Hi cjmdk. I'm having a similar issue, but am unclear what exactly you did to resolve the issue. Did you simply plug the TruNAS box into another port on the pfsense nic?

For some reason Plex wants you to be on the same subnet when you claim the server, I had this issue when I was away from my server and a vpn wasnt working to re-claim my plex server. What did work was creating a ssh tunnel and claiming the server, after that I could access it from a different subnet. The command is
ssh -L 9999:plexip:32400 user@plexip
For this you have to enable ssh in the plex jail itself. After you run the command you should be sshed into the plex jail, then go to your browser and type localhost:9999 to access the Plex web interface.
