Hello,

I have raidz2 pool. One drive in that pool faulted as in below status view
NsVHAWC.png

I have short smart reports every night and there were no errors reported not even last night's report.

Should I really be concerned about this and replace the drive? Drive is still under warranty. It is not more than 3 months that I setup my system. One thing I observe is this drive is coolest drive among all 4 of them that is always. It is average at 5 degrees.

Thanks & regards,
Ertan

Could be a cable issue. I'd be inclined to power down the system and swap its cable with another drive and see if the problem moves with the drive or stays with the cable.

Remember to zpool clear if you want those errors gone.

I have a pair of 6GB/sec cables. And another pair of no name cables. I will check. If that drive is on no name cables, I will order two proper 6GB/sec cables, switch no name ones with these and observe.

Thanks.

I have ordered new cable set. Did not touch server, yet.

I see below smart status log today which run last night
SMART Self-test log structure revision number 1
Num Test_Description Status Remaining LifeTime(hours) LBA_of_first_error
# 1 Short offline Completed without error 00% 1002 -
# 2 Extended offline Interrupted (host reset) 90% 988 -
# 3 Short offline Completed without error 00% 978 -
# 4 Short offline Completed without error 00% 954 -
# 5 Short offline Completed without error 00% 930 -

I have no experience what that second test means. Can anyone explain that to me, please?

Thanks.

I did take drive offline and physically removed from my server.
Performed a test that WD requested. Device seemingly healthy according to this test as below:

Test Option: *EXTENDED TEST*
Model Number: WDC WD10EFRX-68FYTN0
Firmware Number: 82.00A82
Capacity: 1000.20 GB
SMART Status: PASS
Test Result: *PASS*
Test Time: 18:43:08, November 03, 2018

I will wait my cables arrive, attach drive back and observe. if errors continue, I will open a RMA request.

Anybody know how long I can run my raidz2 system using 3 discs (one missing)?

Thanks & regards,
Ertan

Well... indefinitely if nothing fails in the meantime.

I changed the cabling of my system. System completed resilvering after taking online the disc. Now it says HEALTHY. However, I still receive smart logs with following line:
# 4 Extended offline Interrupted (host reset) 90% 988 -

Anyone has any advise?

Run a long SMART test and see if it completes, then show us the SMART data

I have no experience reading that information. Below is SMART data after a long test:

Looks fine, it's passed 4 extended tests since the error (host reset) and is showing no errors in the SMART data for the drive.

Did the system reboot or lose power during that original error?

System did lose power at least once. It is not on uninterrupted power supply yet.

I also forgot to mention that I did get crc errors on that same drive two times. Always one crc error at a time.

Normally this is a bad SATA cable

As @Jessep said the drive is fine

I already replaced that SATA cable with the one claiming to be 6GB/s compatible.

I will continue observing.
