Hi all, hoping someone might be able to give me some steps to try to troubleshoot this. On FreeNAS v9.3 WOL worked just fine on my test system (not the one in my sig). The hardware for this system is not recommended, no ECC, has min. 8GB RAM, but has been working great for some time now, for backup, testing etc. Initially I upgraded from v9.3 to v9.10 but have gone as far as a fresh install of v9.10 to try to fix this. No luck. I can see via the switch that the interface is up, even with the system shut down which tells me it just isnt responding to the wake packets sent.

ifconfig shows: em0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500 options=209b<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING,VLAN_HWCSUM,WOL_MAGIC>

It might just be the old Intel PCI NIC I'm using along with the drivers in FreeBSD 10, but I'd like to try to get it to work if at all possible.

Thanks in advance for any assistance offered.

Just found this thread Wake On LAN which has some helpful information. And this thread.

In further testing, without any changes to the O.S./settings/files/etc. I plugged in the onboard Nvidia based NIC and WOL just worked. Looking more and more like WOL just isn't going to work with the old Intel NIC and FreeBSD 10.

Hello ,please try to comment this line
for permanent /conf/base/etc/rc.shutdown
for temporary /etc/rc.shutdown
and after shutdown machine ,try to send magic packet .
-----------
#/sbin/ifconfig -l | /usr/bin/xargs -n 1 -J % /sbin/ifconfig % down
------------

Thanks @zarec99 I just upgraded to a more recent version of 9.10 and haven't tested WOL again yet, but if that doesn't work I'll give your suggestion a shot. Do you mind elaborating on what that command does (a quick Google didn't return much useful info)?

Hello, I am not a developer, but commented out line should send to all network interfaces down - ex. ifconfig bge0 down
